Meet the King & Whitson Travel Team
Travel Advisor, Partner
Martha King’s wanderlust started as a teenager when she lived in England for a summer and her love for travel has become a true passion as she continues to explore the world. Some of Martha’s favorite travel experiences include seeing the giant tortoises in the Galapagos, discovering the gorgeous Greek Isles, walking the streets of ancient Ephesus, exploring castles and all things royal in England and Scotland, touring small family owned vineyards in Tuscany, staying in a fabulous riad in Marrakech, and learning how to pour the perfect pint in Dublin!!
Martha loves creating memorable and life-changing experiences for her clients. She actively listens for what the client hopes to experience and then uses her expertise and connections to craft a custom itinerary. Whether it is a family trip, special anniversary, honeymoon or girl’s getaway, Martha understands that each client has different expectations for a trip and she works closely to discover their unique preferences and goals.
Martha and Susan are constantly meeting with suppliers and hoteliers from around the globe so that they can remain well-connected to those who are able to bring their client’s dreams to life; and provide memorable experiences that simply cannot be found on the pages of guidebook.
King and Whitson Travel strives to exceed your expectations for memorable and unique experiences, providing “wow” moments and doing our best to eliminate all your travel worries.

As former White House press secretary to Laura Bush, Susan traveled the globe and experienced some of the world’s most beautiful and culturally rich places. Having traveled to 49 US states and more than 60 countries, she enjoys planning trips to emerging and off-the-beaten path travel destinations.
Susan specializes in southern Africa, French Polynesia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America. Honeymoons and family travel are also areas of Susan's expertise. When not exploring the world, Susan lives in the Virginia countryside with her husband, Keir, and their two children.
Mary Elizabeth Kaufman
Having worked in the travel industry since 2012, Mary Elizabeth believes travel is a healthy addiction she is proud to have! Because of her husband's Italian roots, Mary Elizabeth specializes in planning travel to all areas of Italy. Her goal is to travel to all 20 regions of Italy in her lifetime. Mary Elizabeth and her husband, Julian, have three children (all of whom have traveled more in their short lives than she ever did at their ages!). Mary Elizabeth vows to NOT stay in her little corner of the earth when at all possible.
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” - Mark Twain
Originally from Livorno, Italy, Chiara moved to Rappahannock County, V.A. with her family at a very young age. She spent her childhood dividing her time between Italy and Virginia, and has since expanded her travels to include Central and Eastern Europe, the U.K., the Baltics, and many trips to South Asia. With a passion for exploring lesser known parts of the planet and truly experiencing new cultures, she believes that every trip is an opportunity to help preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the places we visit. Chiara holds a B.A. in International Business from the College of Charleston, S.C., and comes from a career in marketing with a focus on ocean technology.
